MCS-013 Discrete Mathematics: what to expect
- Sets and logic: sets with examples, truth tables, Venn diagrams, tautologies, quantifiers, proof that √13 is irrational.
- Boolean algebra: logic circuits, duality and the dual of a circuit's expression.
- Counting and probability: words from "SUCCESS", committee selection, distributing items into boxes, the addition theorem, Pascal's triangle.
- Relations and functions: equivalence relations, one-one functions, inverse functions.
- Proofs: induction for 1² + 2² + ... + n².
Tips to score more
- Write your assumptions. An expression like A ∪ B ∩ C can be read two ways, so say which one you used.
- Show every case in counting problems. In the committee question, list each combination and its product. The total is 126910.
- Test one-one before finding an inverse. f(x) = (x³ + 2)/(x − 3) is not one-one, so it has no inverse on its whole domain.
- Label every diagram. Draw Venn diagrams and circuits in pencil and mark each region and gate.

ECO-02 Accountancy-1: what to expect
- Q1 (20 marks): depreciation: meaning, causes, objectives and methods (straight line, diminishing balance, annuity, sinking fund).
- Q2: why the journal is sub-divided, special journals, and types of errors with examples.
- Q3: ledger as the principal book, need of the journal, credit sales through the Total Debtors Account and Memorandum Trading Account.
- Q4 (20 marks): consignment accounts in the books of the consignor and the consignee.
- Q5: Profit and Loss Account vs Balance Sheet, and single entry vs double entry.
Tips to score more
- Calculate first in the consignment question. Commission = 10% of invoice price + 20% of the surplus = Rs. 6,000 + Rs. 500 = Rs. 6,500.
- Prepare every ledger for both parties and check that each account balances.
- Use two-column tables in Q5 with at least 8 to 10 points of difference.
- Add a numerical example in Q3(b). Examiners reward it.
How to write and submit your assignment
- Download the question paper from IGNOU or your study material.
- Use the solution as a guide, then write the answers in your own handwriting on A4 sheets. Our IGNOU Handwritten Assignment posts explain the format.
- Fill the cover page: enrolment number, course code, programme code, name and study centre code.
- Submit at your Study Centre and take the receipt. Keep a photocopy.
- Use blue or black ink for text and pencil for diagrams.
Tip: Do not copy word for word. Use the solution to understand the method and write in your own words. Also prepare for the viva voce (20 marks in MCS-013).
